VIDEO: Secretary McDonald on Meet the Press – a replay for those who may have missed it, gives a good overview of the first 7 months for the new Secretary.

Secretary McDonald on Meet the Press –- Months after scandal, VA secretary vows department is making progress -– February 15, 2015, by Wesley Lowery, Washington Post

Seven months after taking the helm of the embattled Department of Veterans Affairs, Robert McDonald insisted during his first Sunday show interview that he has already brought new accountability measures to a scandalized department. “We’re making fundamental changes in the department… 900 hundred people have been fired since I became secretary,” McDonald told Meet the Press’s Chuck Todd on Sunday morning. “We’’ve got 60 people who we’ve fired who have manipulated wait times, we’ve got about 100 senior leaders who are under investigation now… so we’re holding people accountable.”…

G2X TAKE: Here is a link to the recorded interview for those who missed the Meet The Press interview last Sunday. For the most part, there was not a lot that most who cover VA won’t already know. The one revealing thing discussed was that the VA has fired 900 people since Secretary McDonald joined. That is a pretty astounding number and you can expect that the Secretary will receive a lot of heat from the press as they fact check those numbers against those who took early retirement or were just redeployed elsewhere at VA. Regardless, the driving point here is that the VA is taking a hard stand against under-performers and anyone who manipulates results.
