VA’s MyHealtheVet and Blue Button called out for huge data gaps

Is VA Misleading Veterans about ‘My HealtheVet’ Medical Records? -– April 6, 2015, By Benjamin Krause,

You do not get all your medical records despite VA’’s claims on its website. You get whatever VA thinks you need to know and sometimes none of what you are looking for when it comes to C&P examination notes. Veterans are being seriously misled by Veterans Affairs about how much of their own health care information they can access from the web portal My HealtheVet and VA Blue Button. While veterans are given the impression you can access all your records this way, it is not true……

G2X TAKE: While the tone of the article might initially call into question the motives of the author, the article clearly lays out the findings, driving home the message that the VA has been inflating the value of Blue Button and MHV and what the Veteran can really expect to receive. While anyone close to the MHV Blue Button program is almost certainly aware of the limitations and choices made, this does speak to ongoing challenges and issues the VA faces when it comes to interoperability and openness. With many more significant issues to deal with, this is unlikely to be front and center in Congress anytime soon.
