Public Health Informatics Consultancy, JMC quietly racking up the wins at CDC

G2X TAKE: Building on their first Prime award at CDC, a 3-year contract they added last Fall to provide Technical Support for AFIX (Assessment Feedback Incentives Exchange) – IIS (Immunization Information Systems) Integration, J Michael Consulting (JMC), a small business with expertise in areas such as Laboratory Informatics, Data Standards and Interoperability and Project and Program Management, recently added two new 3-year Prime contract wins.

For the first award, JMC and its partners, General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT), Yahara Software, and Blackhawk Genomics, were awarded a 3-year $5M contract for the design, development and maintenance of a centrally maintained cloud-based system that will enable management and analysis of next generation sequencing (NGS) data. This contract, which will involve providing support for Advanced Molecular Detection (AMD), which employs massively parallel sequencing, a.k.a. next-generation sequencing, is in support of the National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases (NCEZID) Office of Advanced Molecular Detection (OAMD). There was one other bidder for this effort that was competed on GSA IT-70.

The second award we touched on a few weeks ago, was a 3-year $5M IT Professional Services contract with CDC to provide informatics support for the ongoing development, modernization and enhancement of the FluLIMS Ecosystem. JMC will maintain subcontracts with General Dynamics Information Technology (GDIT), Yahara Software, and Novolab Solutions (hereafter the JMC Team), to bring an exclusive set of expertise and experience to provide the FluLIMS Support Services. The contract was awarded using IT-70, drawing two other bids.

Take Bytes

  • Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Jon Lipsky, who founded Atlanta-based JMC in 2011, is well known in CDC circles, having spent the past 17 years leading several projects while working as a contractor at CDC, with a primary focus on Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
  • With CDC’s large IT IDIQ, CDC CIMS IDIQ expiring, the opportunity is there for firms such as JMC to be in position to be bigger players and partner options as the CDC looks to GSA and NITAAC contract vehicles.
  • In addition to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), some of the identified clients for JMC include FDA, ICF and CSRA (now GDIT).
