OPINION: Reforming the Military Health System - February 12, 2015, By Peter L. Levin, General H. Hugh Shelton, and Stephen Ondra, CNAS.org
In this white paper, experts Dr. Peter Levin, former CTO of VA, General H. Hugh Shelton, U.S. Army (ret.), former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Dr. Stephen Ondra, former senior advisor for health information in the White House, urge the in-process electronic health records acquisition to not choose a closed, proprietary, highly integrated commercial vendor, and that the Department of Defense (DOD) promote Blue Button personal health records to help address digital record exchange with the Department of Veterans Affairs.
G2X TAKE: This widely publicized white paper is just another chapter in the highly visible and quite public battle that is underway for the future of the EHR within the Military Health System. Expect the COTS vendors in pursuit of this to come back at this touting their interoperability capabilities.
