OPINION: Health Agencies Take Patient – Centric Approach

Pain Relief: Federal Agencies Target Patient-Centric Healthcare –- April 6, 2015, By Rachel Meyer, Avascent

While a full realization of this vision is still far off, there has been a notable shift to address several of these areas within the federal government over the last year. The healthcare industry is at a critical moment where the democratization of information following the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act digitization revolution, and burgeoning demand for healthcare information from the citizen post-Affordable Care Act (ACA) has created an environment ripe for change in the way we manage, distribute and consume health information. Across healthcare agencies, implementation initiatives are driving a new wave of opportunity in federal health….

G2X TAKE: This paper provides a number of examples where agencies are making more forward looking patient-centric investments such as improved decision-making tools at CMS, and the rise in mobile apps at VA; and examples in which MHS is working more closely with the commercial sector. While a high level overview, the white paper recognizes what many of us are seeing, which is an appetite for commercial best practices with an influx of expertise from both west coast and large commercial healthcare players. Given the strategic hires happening at the executive level, this is a trend we do not expect to slow down anytime soon. Whether through acquisition or partnership, firms are adjusting their short and long term strategic plans to meet these needs.
