IBM picks up Data Modernization task win in support of FDA CTP

G2X TAKE: Global technology and consulting provider IBM, adding to their extensive portfolio in support of the Food and Drug Administration, was recently awarded a two-year task to provide data modernization support services to the FDA Center for Tobacco Products (CTP) office, which is responsible for carrying out the Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Control Act. This task, valued at $10M, was competed on the FDA Regulatory review support services BPA, drawing two bids.

  • This task comes on the heels of seeing IBM add more than $100M in new awards in support of the Food and Drug Administration to close FY 2020, ranging from Data, Tools and Infrastructure and CTP OS Customer Service Center support, to statistical programming and OCS Service Desk support services.   • IBM and ServiceNow only recently announced they are expanding their strategic partnership to focus on applying AI to automate IT operations. More here.
  • This past Fall IBM announced they were spinning off their managed infrastructure unit to focus on Red Hat, hybrid cloud. More here.
  • IBM has made numerous acquisitions over last few years, but two in particular further cemented their position as a dominant player across the Federal Health sector: The 2019 landmark $34B acquisition of Red Hat, in a move intended to define a more open/hybrid cloud future; and a $2.6B Acquisition of Truven Health Analytics, a move intended to extend their leadership in Value-Based Care Solutions in 2016. 
  • Fortune 50 Technology giant IBM was named to the updated list of NXT UP firms poised to make big waves in the Federal sector in 2020 and for years to come.
