“The Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology’s deputy national coordinator, Dr. Jon White, is stepping down from his post in August, agency chief Dr. Donald Rucker wrote in an email to staff Monday.”
“White, who joined the ONC nearly five years ago, is leaving the agency to serve as associate chief of staff of research at the VA Salt Lake City Health Care System.”
“The executive director of the ONC’s Office of Technology, Steven Posnack, will take on the role of deputy national coordinator upon White’s departure…”

G2X TAKE: Jon White, a longtime ONC Executive and family physician who has dedicated his career to improving health and health care quality through the use and sharing of electronic health information, will bring his experience driving mission-critical activities, including the publication of high priority, national regulations, a Shared Nationwide Interoperability Roadmap, and expertise in information blocking, and precision medicine to his new role with the Department of Veterans Affairs in Salt Lake City.
Another longtime ONC leader, Steven Posnack, the current Executive Director for ONC’s Office of Technology, will be in position to hit the ground running as he brings experience gained serving as an advisor to the National Coordinator, leading the ONC Health IT Certification Program, and directing ONC’s standards and technology investments through the ONC Tech Lab, as well as nearly 4 years driving the ONC Office of Standards and Technology, to his new role as Deputy Director. We are certain more than a few will reach out to offer congratulations and support to these two leaders as they take on new challenges.
