Former National Cancer Institute Acting CIO takes new role outside government

G2X TAKE: Having spent the last dozen years leading bioinformatics and IT initiatives across NIH and with NCI, this move to help drive this health IT platform aimed at enhancing and improving the understanding and treatment of cancer will draw some attention from the many firms vying to play a role supporting the newly funded Cancer Moonshot effort.

George Komatsoulis has taken on a new role as the Chief of Bioinformatics at CancerLinQ LLC. The recently approved 21st Century Cures Act includes funding of $1.8 billion to NIH for Vice President Biden’s Cancer Moonshot. Much of that funding will be pushed outside the walls of Bethesda, with CancerLinQ and George clearly in position to play a role.
