Carestream wins US Navy nod for PACS system

December 30, 2014, By Mark Hollmer,

Carestream Health is celebrating a new milestone that will help expand the use of its medtech imaging products in U.S. Naval medical facilities. The New York-based maker of dental, medical and X-ray imaging systems, plus related equipment, said it is approved through The Department of Defense Information Assurance Certification and Accreditation Process to provide picture archiving and communications systems to U.S. Navy medical centers. According to Carestream, the technology helps providers store, manage and access patient medical images and their general care information. Carestream said it is the first company to win the designation, which broadens the market for its technology to any U.S. Navy medical treatment facility……

G2X TAKE: DIACAP is necessary for a vendor to sell its product within the Military Health System when that product integrates with AHLTA/CHCS and touches patient data. It’s certainly a milestone that increases their potential to compete on upcoming PAC opportunities. It’s unclear when application rationalization will hit the medical imaging requirement, but this is a step in the right direction for Carestream.
