Acting National Cancer Institute Deputy Director and CBIIT Director departs NIH

G2X TAKE: After spending the past 18 months as the Acting Deputy Director for NCI and the past 4 years as Director of the NCI’s Center for Biomedical Informatics and Information Technology (CBIIT), this FedHealthIT 100 award recipient has departed NIH.

Warren Kibbe, PhD, left NIH this month as he moves back to academia, joining the Duke University School of Medicine, where he will serve as Chief for Translational Biomedical Informatics and Chief Data Officer. Kibbe came to NCI after a 12-year stint leading Biomedical and Cancer Informatics for Northwestern.

Duke has participated in a number of Federal programs in the past and we suspect those firms focused at NCI will keep the relationship as they look to leverage both the great insight and capabilities this group may bring as an academic partner on future bids.

** Update: Kibbe remains listed as Director on the CBIIIT website, but G2X has been informed that Tony Kerlavage, the current Chief for the NCI Cancer Informatics Branch at CBIIT, has taken over as Acting Director.
