The Department of State (DoS) has issued a Sources Sought notice for market research purposes to identify vendors capable of providing high-quality residential furnishings from American manufacturers. This requirement supports the Bureau of Overseas Buildings Operations (OBO) and the Global Acquisitions (GA) team in maintaining a worldwide portfolio of commercial and residential buildings. The government intends to establish Blanket Purchase Agreements (BPAs) for repetitive, streamlined purchases of household furniture and related supplies to facilitate mission performance. Performance is centered in Charleston, South Carolina, though the furniture will support international customers through Furniture and Appliance Pools (FAP) and OBO design offices.
The scope encompasses commercial and contract-grade residential furniture, including beds, chairs, tables, wardrobes, desks, and mattresses. Specifically, the Department requires vendors who can provide furniture styles ranging from Transitional, Contemporary, and Modern for larger residences to Minimalist designs for compact apartments. These products must meet durability standards, such as BIFMA compliance, and utilize high-performing materials including hardwoods like Oak, Maple, and Walnut, as well as metals, glass, and stone. Vendors must be able to offer three color schemes—warm, neutral, and cool—across all furniture styles to meet the technical specifications for various residential environments.
This request is identified under NAICS 337121 Upholstered Household Furniture Manufacturing and PSC 7105 HOUSEHOLD FURNITURE. There is no set-aside designated for this notice. Responses are due by March 6, 2026, and should address the requirements detailed in the seven associated attachments, which include product specification charts and multiple rounds of questions and answers.
